Eh, that sounds exactly like a molcajete which is supposed to have those holes everywhere. You actually have to season them specially before you ever use them. They are quite a different tool and made out of basalt. They are great for cooking in and serving too. You can use them on an open fire and everything. When you serve with them you place them on a board, which chars the board, but not the table. The food stays super hot while you serve from it.

Chicken molcajete is one of my fave dishes.
