Why is there such a smear campaign against broccoli?

Who started this "kids don't like broccoli because it's gross" meme? I liked steamed broccoli even as a kid

Brocolli is so packed with flavour for a green veg, why would you need to season it unless you eat it with nothing else?

Just eat it with something more rich in flavour and it's perfect as is for a side

Personally I chow down on blanched broccoli as soon as it's cooked
