I'm a few days I'm doing an almost-cross-country trip from NYC to Salt Lake City

>Chicago
>Yellowstone Park Region
>Salt Lake City
>Denver
>Kansas City
>St. Louis

Are amongst the most major areas I'll be stopping.

I've lived in NY all my life and haven't experienced much in terms of "American" food, and I am ignorant to a lot of the foods served.
NY is a conglomerate of all types of people so I've tried chink/jap.asian food, indian food, western&eastern european food, latino food..etc. I want AMERICAN food

I'm looking for recommendations of places to visit or foods to try.

An example being, I know for a fact that when I get to Salt Lake City, I will find an In-N-Out. Or if I were in the south, I would try authentic Sweet tea or biscuits or something
