>But the point is that veganism is not inherently any more healthy than being a regular old vegetarian or a normal person who simply eats a decent amount of vegetables,

I have no disagreement with that. I'm just saying there are some vegans I like and respect and I don't care much either way what they choose to eat.

That's essentially exactly the same as the Penn jillette "potato diet". Which weirdly caught on because it has nothing to do with potatoes and the guy who put him on it, Ray Cronise just picked potatoes because he knew Penn liked them.

But basically the principle is the same. By eating only one thing for several weeks, it breaks your relationship between food and dopamine so that you're not eating for enjoyment, you're eating for necessity.

I don't love veganism, but it did literally save Penn Jillette's life according to him. The other weird thing is that even though he did it for completely non-ethical reasons, after a fairly short time span he started finding the thought of eating meat extremely disgusting. If you know anything of him, you will know what a weird turn that is.

Most people do not understand that thinking with your stomach is a much more literal phrase than they realize. One of humanity's greatest plagues, alcoholism is primarily a gut disorder.

Penn Jillette did it at like 60 and lost over 100lbs and went from a cocktail of over a dozen drugs a day to keep his health problems in check to two.

Penn Jillette who was super anti vegan did it for health reasons initially and then slowly turned into a moral vegan after not eating meat for a couple years. I listen to his podcast and it was a really weird transition to watch happen.

On the other hand I knew three very hardcore vegans in my teens and early 20's and they all now consume meat to some degree. For one it's mostly cause that's all her kids want to eat so she cleans up after them (or eats fresh roadkill) and another just started getting crazy cravings for liver when she was pregnant. It's a weird world man.
