Hey there /ck/

I only have a single whetstone. It has two sides, one is 400, the other one is 1000.

I am a complete beginner and have essentially never done this before.

My knife is a pretty good one. I am scared I will end up doing more damage thang good.

With a stone like mine, is it actually possible to do IRREVERSIBLE damage?

Follow up question: Would it be better for an idiot like me to just get a honing rod? I have heard bad things about diamond honing rods. How about regular old steel? I know that they are just used to keep the knife straight. Just wonderung.
