Some morons think that adding water to whisky creates voodoo magic that adds flavor to whisky, when all its really doing at a scientific level is making guaiacol float to the top of the glass, making the first sips of the dram more flavorful, the last sips of the dram less flavorful, and the average sip less flavorful due to dilution.
