So I forked out a few bucks for a can of 'chovies. Not gonna put them on pizza, that would be heresy.

Most of the time when people talk about anchovies they are referring to these highly salty cured fillets. Sardines aren't cured. If you find un-cured anchovies they actually aren't that different from sardines, they're just another tiny fish.

How do people eat this shit? Literally the most disgusting fish I've ever tried. Even when I take it off something that a restaurant puts it on it still ruins anything it touched (e.g. salad).
