I have no idea why I did it. What's worse is it felt natural. No, I'm not black. I still think of the theft to this day. Maybe it's Catholic guilt, but I still feel real sore about it. I wish I could apologize to the man. I think he died like 8 or 10 years ago. They closed the store and converted it into a regular home again after the pandemic. It was the last standing corner store in the neighborhood.
