indian cuisine is about complexity and mixtures of many different spices
italian cuisine is about simplicty. when you tweak one ingredient of an indian recipe, you're altering 5% of it. when you tweak one ingredient of some italian recipes, you're tweaking 25-50% of it

hell, i've even seen americans argue about how you should call it a "melt" when there's more than just cheese and butter on it
just stop worrying about it, some named recipes are rigid with their ingredients, some aren't. it's not a travesty. and italians will freely say you can substitute ingredients that are hard to find outside of italy (like for example it's okay to use bacon in carbonara, you just need a fatty piece of cured meat)
