I enjoyed your post, Russia anon, and I’m becoming like you now myself in burgerland. Once you get something dialed in to your own tastes, it’s hard to go back.

One thing I would highly recommend is ordering crazy plant varietals via seeds. One day I had this epiphany where I truly realized “well fuck if you want Taiwanese guava stop being a bitch and order the fucking seeds”. So now after two months in a windowsill I have 3 tiny maybe 5cm little guava trees. We’ll see how that goes. They look happy.

I also grew some really strange Basil (Holy Basil), and some large green and red cherry peppers (blurry picrel) along with some Aleppo chiles (but those turned out largely not useful in cooking). Right now trying to get a kumquat tree growing from seed.

I think if you give up your expectations on time, and even usability, the journey itself is rewarding when something unexpectedly becomes great. Also, you start to think longer term and plan better. An old man who likes to grow things told me “if you can’t grow plants, how can you hope to grow relationships with people?” and I have to admit he was right.
