More and more it's sounding like something happened with the uncooked rice. If you're willing to try an experiment I'd like you to make some of the same rice on the stovetop. If you're unfamiliar with the process then a good guideline is 1 part rice to 2 parts water, bring to a boil and then cover and simmer on the lowest heat for about 20 minutes. I noticed that you mentioned the rice boiling over earlier, I'm not familiar with rice cookers but when cooking in a pot you can prevent this by just opening the pot a bit once or twice. Some people stick a toothpick between the pot & lid but IME that never quite works. Also did you wash the rice itself?
