Also in recovery. At first, social events are a goddamned nightmare. Toasts and a round of shots or whatever can wreak havoc. You can only be in the john for so long before the rest of the group starts to wonder. I've been sober 14 years now, so it's not the big deal it once was. I'm rarely at a bar with folks I don't know well. If I am and don't feel like spilling my story, I just tell them I have to drive. These days, that's a pretty well-accepted response.
