you can go a long way with just a stainless steel saucepan, soup pot, and frying pan. If you are permapoor you can literally cook anything with a knife and a wooden spoon. For foods, this image is prety gud

Maybe you'll get something out of this. Personally as someone who (still) doesn't cook all this picture taught me is that cooking is ridiculously convoluted and high effort to bother with. I mean, this is supposed to be an *easy* cooking guide. Pretty sure the only way cooking is "easy" is if you get some weird pleasure out of it and don't mind wasting so much time and effort on all the supply shopping, stocking, and prep work. Sort of like how playing a guitar is fun because your focus is on making neat music whereas if you didn't play guitar and were forced to spend hours poking your fingers at random positions on soundless strings tied to a block of wood it would be an annoying chore.

Cooking threads are way more annoying. It's not even close. Fast food is neat and the topics are mostly things you can check out immediately by swinging by some local chain or getting delivery somewhere you never tried before. Meanwhile cooking is overly complicated autistic bullshit like pic related which is somehow supposed to be a BEGINNER infographic. I get nauseous just imagining what it would be like to invest that much time and energy into food.
