Both are badass. Both had some French colonial influence, while being regional variations on some similar themes. If you like a more Middle Eastern vibe go Lebanese - it's like a mix of Middle Eastern and Greek - tough to miss if grilled meat and salads are your thing. If you prefer spicy meat stews and lamb sausage or really like couscous Moroccan is your jam.

I ever so slightly lean toward Lebanese unless I was in the mood for spicy.

While I love Mexican my fave is probably Lebanese. It's kind of like the greatest hits of the Mediterranean and Middle East rolled together. As a fan of Mexican food you've tasted Lebanese influence in dishes like quipe, tacos al Pastor and tacos arabes.

Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst still have Lebanese well represented. At least once a month I grab a felafel at Al Safa on 5th Ave, which is Lebbo as fuck. Lebanese food is great. There are also old school Italians (think Saturday Night Fever) and Greeks. Recently Bensonhurst has been tilting Chinese, and Bay Ridge more Middle Eastern.

As far as food goes both neighborhoods are still good places for old school Italian-American and Mediterranean food. Bay Ridge has a few killer Middle Eastern bakeries, and Bensonhurst now has some Fujian Chinese joints.

I'm a big fan of Lebanese food. It's everything likeable about Greek and Turkish with the addition of Palestine's Greatest Hits. And a little French influence doesn't hurt, either.

And their influence has traveled pretty far, from Shish Taouk sandwiches in Montreal to mezze in NYC to tacos arabes and al pastor in Mexico to kibbe in Brazil. A bunch of them landed in Australia, too.

A seriously great, and easily overlooked cuisine, in my opinion. It seems like half the Lebanese joints in the US don't even announce the fact they're Lebanese; they just call themselves Mediterranean restaurants.

Thoughts on Lebanese food, /ck/?
