I know what you mean. They had to explain it to me once, I have a hard time understanding because I don't have kids yet.

Here is how I understand it now.

They knew you literally since the second you were born. They held you for hundreds of hours often while you cried at the severity of being alive, the fear and loneliness that comes with being human, upon you since the day you were born, they were there for you through it all until you become old enough to start really separating mentally and physically from them, and even now as an adult.

When you were little you asked questions that opened their minds, growing up you said and did things that made their heart grow. You were their companion when they felt alone. You made them laugh when they wanted to cry. Nothing will ever end the friendship and love they feel for you.

It's like men who go to war and face death together, it's hard to explain but it's a real bond. They brought you into life and faced it together with you. None of your sins and faults will ever matter to them, those things are not you. They know you, the eternal you, the beam of light that shines through the darkness which they will think of forever in this life, the dearest to them even as they pass on to the next.

Love your parents back and forgive yourself as they forgive you. That is life.
