for carbs you don't need to compromise because healthy carbs are cheap: beans, brown rice, oats, potatoes, etc. for veggies the only compromise is to get frozen stuff in bulk such as broccoli, spinach, green beans, or cheaper fresh things like onions, cucumber, bell peppers. protein is where it's more difficult. whatever is on sale I guess, including ground beef, chicken (avoid pork if you tryhard fitness), cod, salmon. whole chicken is cheaper but it's a hassle to prepare.
