Deviled eggs.

Hard boil two dozen eggs, peel, cut in half and scoop all the yolks into a ziplock baggie. Add 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1/8 teaspoon salt, black pepper into the baggie and zip it closed. Mash everything together and then snip off a corner of the baggie like a frosting tip and squeeze the mixture back into the egg whites. Put one tray/plate of eggs on either end of the table so everyone can get to them. Offer a bottle of cayenne pepper or paprika next to the eggs for optional heat/flavor.

Can't get more american than that. Everybody fucking loves devil eggs and they're cheap and easy to make in bulk!

This is usually my contribution to family gatherings.
