Question, I really cant understand how to make my pasta taste good before its on the plate. I finish my pasta in the sauce but literally it just tastes like tomato.

1. Add garlic (sometimes onion) cook it a little
2. Pour in tomato sauce
3. Add salt, pepper, dried herbs n stuff.
4. Add pasta to sauce to finish it
5. ??
6. It just tastes like tomato.

I feel like I add a SHIT load of salt and herbs but I never really taste anything, am I retarded or is my tongue broken?
