My wife was almost overwhelmed with relief when she realized that she could just stay home with our kid. She told me that she felt like she had been gaslit her entire life into believing that being a high achieving career woman was the only respectable path but that she'd always just wanted to raise children and be a nurturing mother (of course, I married her because of these qualities).

It was a huge weight off of her, it was almost like someone who's gay finally realizing its OK to stop pretending to be straight. She had to basically "come out" to her bitchy divorced career-woman sister about it too, it's kind of hilarious in retrospect.
