I guess they're cool to look at but I prefer a pet I can hug

I've been a dogowner my whole life. Which sadly means I've gone through a number of dogs by now.
They do treat you as on of their own, and the alpha of the pack if you raise them right, but as soon as you introduce another dog to them they will show him a lot more interest than they do you or any other person.
They might think of themselves as part of your small human family most of the time, but when they encounter an actual dog they do focus on that much more than they would on a human.

I suppose it's quite mutual, actually. I think of my dog as part of the family and I'll weep when she dies, but I know she's not blood relation.

I love dogs but I actually agree with this. If you're going to put them down anyway you might as well use them for something.

I fucking wish.
Mine is 9 and I'm seriously thinking of buying her a little cart so I can wheel her around because she's getting too old for real walks.
Not at all sure she'll make it to 10.

I have one of those so-called "nigger dogs" and my personal theory is that they "suddenly flip" because they're coddled. You gotta teach your dog he'll get a rap on the nose if he fucks up, and that sometimes the world has loud noises etc.
I had to pull a big fat tick off the belly of mine yesterday and she yelped like a baby when I did it. But she didn't bite me or start growling or anything because she knows life is sometimes surprising and nasty.
She got some treats and pets and that made up for it.

I got mauled when I was 11 and became scared of dogs. I eventually weaned myself back onto them starting with small friendly ones and stepping up the size.
I own and love pic related now so it must have worked. And it was definitely worth it.

That's a very good run.
Mine doesn't really look like she'll manage half of that.
She 8½ now and already an old lady.

I know you mean to treat her but that really isn't good for a dog. And she doesn't appreciate it all that much either.
Put a tiny dab of the stuff in her kibble so it smells of burger and she'll scoff it down and be super happy. Absolutely no need to give her a big glob of the stuff.

She's adorable; all the more reason to take good care of her.
Pic is mine.
