Scotch thread. Stepping on toes and need our own thread apparently. What you drinking? what you got in your collction, what do you want to buy?
Feel free to discuss other fine spirits. I really don't care.

Sipping on Talisker Storm myself.

Willing to go in big on something if it can beat this. Is there a bourbon that can do that? I have my doubts. Also interested in trying a good brandy/cognac but I know those prices are even more retarded than Scotch. Anyone got experience in that field?

I havent drunk whisky in quite some time, but have recently tried a few bottles. Something I notice now that I didnt years ago is a certain after taste I can best describe tastes like spiritus smells. Ive had this mostly with Glenfiddich bottles. I was thinking on trying something on the other side of the spectrum, by going all the way with Lagavulin 16 yo. Worth a shot or not? Other recommendations?

Scotch/what are you drinking thread.
Drinking Ben Riach 10. Asked the guy in the Whisky Shop to recommend me something other than an Islay to drink for a change. It's fine, but nothing special. Probably wouldn't have it again.

My boss gave me a bottle of Lagavulin as christmass present, but I know jack shit about whiskey. Is it actually worth anything?

>Maybe one day I'll find out whatever the better things are, but let's face it, at a base level alcohol does not taste good and we drink these concoctions to feel good, with taste coming second.
Absolutely untrue. Good whiskey, like other good spirits, wines, etc. can be absolutely amazing. Cheap spirits are brewed to be easy to drink in a mix, or to be affordable; good spirits are brewed primarily for flavor and complexity.

Glenfarclas 15 and Glendronach 15 revival are both quite good and in your price range. In some places, so are the various extra-matured Glenmorangie bottlings, which can be quite interesting. Quinta Ruban is my favorite of those out of the ones I've tried, still looking for a bottle of the PX one. Might also be able to get a young bottle of Talisker, again depending on where you are; sadly since Islays have become so popular lately they're a lot more expensive than they used to be.

Alternatively you could go for a different style of whiskey, you can get pretty stellar bourbon or rye for that price.

Currently have three bottles of whiskey open in my cabinet:
>Blanton's gold edition bourbon
>Balvenie 21 portwood
>Lagavulin 16
And I've got a bottle of George T. Stagg bourbon left from last year unopened that I'm hoping to open come holiday time and compare it to the new version.

Fuck yes. That stuff is awesome.

So there's an awesome independent cinema nearby and I saw the Big Lebowski there the other night as you all know The dude drinks White Russians. These were served at the screening which I enjoyed very much. Decided I want to drink some next time I watch a film.

But the question is how does one make the perfect White Russian? Kalua or Tia Maria? Milk or cream? Ice or no ice?

Controversially not White Russian at all and use rum instead of vodka.

Opinions?
Also general cocktail/alcohol thread. Share your recipes.

Pic related. It's what I used to drink when I had a job.

This tastes gorgeus, especially when freshly opened.
