Thanks for the recommendations. I ended up using my reward points to get this fancy chinese (I think?) kettle. All of my hot beverages are noticeably better now, I really must have been drinking quite a lot of hot plastic these past few years. I've only had it for a few days so I can't recommend it yet, but so far it's great, hopefully an appliance that does something as simple as heating water can last a good 5-10 years. It's curious that this (at US$80) is still cheaper than an All-Clad stove top kettle, I still want one of those though.
