So what's the actual brew ratio I should use?

The SCAA says 1:18, so 55g/liter, but when I do that my coffee becomes undrinkable bitter, especially in the last cup. I'm sure it isn't my brewing method because I do all the recommended steps you can find online.
It becomes way more drinkable and aromatic at around 32g/liter, or a brew ratio of 1:31, which is also closer to the 6g pads/cup in padmakers.
Am I the only one having that problem?
