Disproven in the original thread. Temperature isn't uniform going all the way from top to bottom in a given cold spot like the soup cylinder autist claimed.

All right, I run a little simulation. Convection works as expected, but since I took water as a flui I guess that due to different viscosity an actual soup would behave similarly but with lower velocities. I didn't expect this particular stratification of temperatures, but there you have it. This is what happens when you pour soup in a bowl and let it sit for four minutes.
