Is sushi the most overpriced food type in the world? Like the ingredients are <10% of the price, and the preparation is so easy. I bet 50% of the price is purely because of the "reputation" that it has.

Why is GOOD, quality sushi nearly impossible to find in United States.

You usually just have to settle for shitty gas station or Wal-Mart sushi because there's fucking nowhere to get good sushi

FUCK I'M DYING FOR SOME SUSHI

How close is the sushi we have in the west to what the Japs actually eat?

If Japan had never existed, then we would never have discovered sushi. This makes me wonder how many delicious foods are out there which are possible to make but have never been attempted.

Go to a restaurant or open a cookbook and what do you see? Burgers, pizzas, tacos, hot dogs, pasta, and so on... Point is, it's always the same stuff with only slight variations on an existing theme. Even fusion cuisine which tries to be a bit more ambitious is just a mix of two different already existing cuisines (e.g. kimchi tacos). Some interesting combinations can be made, but nothing new is added. It's still kimchi and tacos.

Imagine if there was something like a scientific journal where every week, it published new recipes that would be 'alien' to us as something like sushi must have been to the Victorians or hot dogs to samurai. Why isn't this a thing?
