> Chili con carne, as the dish we are talking about was originally known as, was invented in the 18th century in Central Texas.

A bean, chili pepper and meat stew (i.e “chili”) was being eaten by Mesoamericans thousands of years before Columbus discovered America.

Chili was invented by the Mesoamericans and it was a bean stew that could have meat added if it was available.

If it doesn't have beans, it's not chili.

Chili is an ancient Mesoamerican BEAN and chili pepper stew, any other ingredients (meat, corn, etc.) are optional.

If it doesn’t have beans, it’s not chili.

Sorry, but chili is an ancient Mesoamerican dish that consists of beans and chili peppers eaten with corn tortillas, meat was optional and for dirt-poor Aztec peasants, a rare treat.

>That said, if you're going to add beans to chili, it needs to be like 8 oz. of beans for every 5 lbs. of beef.

Nonsense, chili was developed by Mesoamericans as a BEAN stew, to which meat _might_ be added if any was available.
