>always ate canned fish in refugee camp
>parents still buy canned fish
>it's pretty good
>be 13
>get insane craving for mackerel salad, don't know why
>eat all the cans
>mom buys more
>craving persists
>eat all the cans
>need more mackerel salad
>no more cans
>craving is so strong i search for change to go to euro store down the street run by bosnian dude
>walk to store
>go in
>nervous because its my first time in store by myself, i need mackerel salad
>put mackerel salad on the counter and he rings it up
>tells me price
>i put money on the counter and start to walk out
>shop owner repeats price to me
>i think i gave him too much money
>oh it's okay, keep the change
>shop owner looks confused and is holding change as i walk out
>walking home thinking why did he look so confused?
>realize i didn't give him enough money and he was repeating the price because i was short
>remember me saying it's okay keep the change
>remember his confused face
>start laughing uncontrollably
>get home still laughing at the absurdity
>still thinking about guys confused face
>sister asks what is so funny?
>nothing
>eat mackerel salad
>it's delicious
>eventually the strong craving went away, but i still think it's good
