Well, my mom didn't know how to cook to save her life, just about all she could make were freezer food you just stick in the oven for a few minutes but that only became a problem after my parents divorced; I feel like a large part of why I ran off with my dad is because he actually knew how to cook.

I remember having couscous (with bits of garlic, which I still think I delicious), steak, chicken breast or pork chops and peas/mashed potatoes pretty regularly. Had pretty great breakfasts every day before school with apple sausage, scrambled eggs bacon, crepes (lemon, vanilla or almond), french toast and grapefruit. Drank a lot of tea then. For lunch I learned how to make white sauce for shells from my dad which was 1000x better than easy-mac or top ramen cups you'd fill with boiling water. I feel like we ate pretty well despite living in my aunt's basement.

My dad would also bake, so we had English muffins, croissants, sweet rolls and other such treats from time to time.
