And this was the last major study to look at pipe smoking with a sample size big enough to be staitstically useful. As for cigars, see the image.

Is there a risk? Sure. But it's far lower than you think. Meanwhile living in a large urban area carries a higher risk of lung cancer than pipes or cigar smoking. And note, these figures are for daily, routine smoking. If you use tobacco as an occasional treat, that risk declines even further.
