I used to be quite fat. The potato diet as mentioned is solid, but it's not reliant on potatoes at all. Ray Cronise, who originated it only picked potatoes because he knew Penn Jillette liked them. But anything simple, like rice and beans or virtually anything bland will suffice. The goal is to reset taste buds so you're not eating for pleasure, you are eating for survival. It doesn't really matter because it's not meant to be a long term diet. The point is to change your relationship to the food you eat.

That said, I went with what to this day I call the Stalone method. I reme as a fat kid watching some old talk show where they asked him how he was always in such good shape.

He said its easy, if you eat well and exercise 5 days a week, when it comes to the weekend you can do whatever. "Pizza, hamburgers, ice cream... doesn't matter. You've done good it's covered" pretty similar to how the rock now talks about cheat days. It really works though.

And here's a thing, I used to drink Coke like crazy, but on that cut it out other than weekends. The first week was awful and coke on Saturday felt like an amazing relief. The second week it was tasty but I didn't crave it like I one did. The third week I drank it mostly just cause I could. By week 4 I did bother, it seemed gross.

Now I have it on rare occasion and it's an intense treat but that's it.
