There are shitholes that do use the, and even dumb-asses in the states that order tapeworms online.
The "Tapeworm diet" is where you either swallow a live tapeworm, tapeworm egg or ingest a tapeworm pill (ironically enough this shit ain't exactly cheap either, certain countries charge you like 1500 dollaridoos per tapeworm) Keep it until you reach you drop the desired weight, then get a deworming agent from a doctor to hopefully kill the thing and then shit it out.
Problem with that is that they don't just "shed some of the fat", it's that they siphon half your daily intake of calories and nutrients, which can lead to serious health issues as they get bigger, making you feel constantly depilitated, constipated and suffer from abdominal pains as they grow, and by grow I mean GROW; they start off being a few millimeters but they can go beyond 15 meters, that's 50 feet for burgers, thankfully people that go untreated fucking die before their parasites could ever get that big, but there's been cases where doctors had to remove tapeworms over 6 feet long from people's guts, imagine having something that size coiled in your intestine, fucking nightmarish.
