eating alone is really pathetic

Whenever I try making baguettes using the pan with water method, it works well for the top of the crust, but it seems to prevent the bottom of the pan from coming to temperature and I end up with a soft bottom. After cooling on a rack it ends up fine to eat and nobody complains but I want that shit CRISP
how do I do? Should I ditch the water pan and just mist the loaf heavily? Or get the baking rack as high as it can go?
