What exactly is wrong with blended whiskey?

Went to a shitty liquor store near me to buy a bottle of Laphroaig, since it was the closest one that had it from checking online (price was also a bit cheaper). All the Scotch had been there a while and when I found the Laphroaig I had to blow a good bit of dust off of it. Did I goof or is this okay?
