I've drank a 1/2 liter of bourbon and a 6 pack of beer every day for the last 11 years. I recently got a job at a university which has great insurance, which i haven't had also in the last 10+ years. It took me 4 months to finally make the jump and do something about it. Went to the doctor and did a bunch of tests. My liver is not damaged, but slightly fatty, blood looks good, urine test came back great. I start recovery in the next week. They will monitor me as they slowly ween me off the alcohol since i was told by my doctor if i quit cold turkey or did it too fast i would die. I've wanted to quit in the last 2 years but havent been strong enough to make the move. I'm so ready for a life of sobriety(still going to toke). I also will enjoy not having to spend about $39 every other day. Glad my wife's stuck around as long as she did, she's been very supportive in helping me take my time to make the jump.

I've been ready for this for way too long. I'm going to miss Ice cold beer, and that delicious burn of the first sip of bourbon for the day.
Wish me luck guys.
