I had to learn how to cook out of necessity because my parents didn't know how to cook. My mom would see something interesting on TV and would try to make it without any recipes or whatever, and it would end up like shit. We didn't have flour in our house until I got a job when I turned 16 because my mom thought it was "too messy."
I never visit them or have them over because every time I do my mother throws a fucking hissy fit and calls me a shit chef when I make nice food for her and my dad, an example comes to mind when I made crepes with some lemon curd, powdered sugar, and lemon juice, with lemon zest as a garnish, and my mother told me she could make better food than I ever could.
