I didn't say that washing the meat in the sink does not contaminate read my posts.
My point is that, if you wash to your cutting board, knives, hands, etc that handled meat in the sink you would indulge in pretty much the same level of cross contamination anyway. You literally are passing bacteria from the meat yo your board and knives to your sink.
I'm assuming the usda is telling you to not handle the meat at all and just put it straight from the package to the pan. You would be cross contaminating if you don't and would be exposed to the same dangers as washing the meat
Also its a fact that the usda and the other page do not cite any studies along with their recommendations so it's not really correct to call it science until they prove it with a scientific study.
