Fucking kek. Having worked in restaurants for over a decade I'll tell you exactly how people order burgers and steaks (yes, they're basically the same, though medium burgers are slightly more popular than medium steak). It goes,
medium-rare > medium > rare = well-done > medium-well

>The more I contemplated food phobias, the more I became convinced that people who habitually avoid certifiably delicious foods are at least as troubled as people who avoid sex, or take no pleasure from it, except that the latter will probably seek psychiatric help, while food phobics rationalize their problem in the name of genetic inheritance, allergy, vegetarianism, matters of taste, nutrition, food safety, obesity, or a sensitive nature. The varieties of neurotic food avoidance would fill several volumes

I regularly use both (though Best Foods, not Hellmann's). They taste completely different and have different uses.

Cutting out giant swaths of different flavors and textures and creatures because they come from the ocean and you think that's "icky" isn't a preference; that's literally the definition of mental illness. The imaginary things in your head are shaping how you experience the world - in a way that is wildly out of touch with everyone around you. Healthy behavior is actually experiencing different things for what they are and realizing that tastes change and people grow up. That doesn't mean you have to love everything; but you're not even willing to give most things a chance. It's not a preference and it does bother me that people like you exist. I imagine you throwing a tantrum if anyone tries to give you something other than tendies or kraft. I'm sure you're not that extreme of a manchild, but that's how the world sees you, and it affects everything else that you might consider mature about yourself because it reflects a fundamental flaw with you character and makes you a terrible, stunted excuse for a person.

I used to have a bunch of Jeffrey Steingarten quotes I'd post in picky eater threads along with pictures of him with younger girls, but I lost them with my last computer. Those were quaint times.
