It's fine as long it as it involves decantering.

Not TV, but the only thing I can think of is "Drops of God." It's actually kind of educational.

That's my impression, yes. A lot of oenophile rituals are baffling and seemingly pretentious to the uninitiated—sniffing the wine, swirling the glass, holding it up to light, describing its "legs," spitting, etc. Bizarre or indecipherable wine labels don't help, either, as is the difficulty in sampling wine—most restaurants don't have decent wine lists, the lists themselves can be hard to order from, places fancy enough to have a knowledgeable sommelier are expensive and intimidating, and whole bottles don't keep well after opening.

So, it's hard to get into, and all the ties to the "Old World" probably don't help. It's much easier to order a nice shot and go, "those guys are faggots."

That's just my theory, anyway. Again, I love whiskey, and I'm slowly working on getting into wine.

There's a shitton to learn. I've been enjoying "Great Wine Made Simple" by Andrea Robinson. Great for learning what kinds of wines are made from which kinds of grapes, how climate/other factors affect the end product, how to order shit in from a wine list, and how to decipher the bullshit on wine labels. The tone of the writing is off-putting in a way that I can't quite put my finger on, but otherwise recommended.

"The Drops of God" is also highly educative (seriously). Ridiculous, but educative.

Don't know of any good resources, but going to restaurants and ordering some flights is a great way to familiarize yourself without having to commit to buying one of every bottle from a liquor store.

Ditto for wine—go to a decent restaurant and order a glass. Bonus points if the joint has knowledgeable staff, or anything resembling a sommelier.

Find a good liquor store. Staff will be more than happy to talk wine. This is especially helpful because price has only a tenuous relationship with quality.

>coffee
I have no idea. I drink all kinds, but never got around to really studying it.

This is 'murka, boy.
