tried the Kraus today. I haven't had it in a while
that smoke-free taste is fairly different from the Paraguayan mate I usually have, but it doesn't quite have the brash, in your face green grassy sweetness I usually associate with typical organic mate made for the western market in the brazilian "mate green" style. I would guess this is because of the material is aged for "at least 12 months" as the packaging says, which makes mate more mellow and balanced. it makes me think of a greener, sweeter Cruz de Malta, but I don't have that one on hand to compare.
the cut is noticably coarser and easier to work with than the average paraguayan mate and has less dust.
