I think I've spent at least $400-500 on booze and takeout food in the last two weeks, and I'm scared if I add it up it would be even more than that. I keep getting drunk and buying beer and pizza for my friends too.

Refried Beans

Ingredients
>1 cup (dry) Pinto Beans, soaked overnight
>1/4 White Onion
>6 cloves Garlic
>~1/2 cup Lard, Butter, Bacon Grease, Vegetable Oil or any other cooking oil (I don't usually have lard so I use a combo of bacon grease and vegetable oil, to avoid giving them too much of a bacon taste)
>2 Jalapeno Peppers
>Oregano (dried or fresh)
>Salt
>Black Pepper
>Cayenne Pepper
>White Vinegar (optional)


Steps
>Throw pre-soaked beans into a stockpot with the garlic cloves and a big pinch of oregano. Cover with like 8 cups of water and bring to a boil.
>Simmer uncovered for 2 hours or until beans are extremely tender, periodically adding more liquid if it looks too dry
>In a big frying pan or different pot, sautee the onion and peppers (chopped) until they are mostly cooked, then add the rest of the oil to the pan
>Using a slotted spoon, move the cooked beans & garlic cloves into the frying pan, saving their cooking liquid in the pot
>Using a potato masher, crush the beans to a paste and mix to incorporate the onions & peppers
>Begin ladling the cooking liquid from the beans into the frying pan, mixing to combine, and continue to mash the mixture. Get the mixture up to a low simmer and continuously repeat the process of adding liquid, mixing, mashing, letting it evaporate a bit, then adding more liquid until all of the liquid is consumed and the texture of the beans is smooth and uniform
>Season with salt, pepper, more oregano, cayenne and (my special ingredient, I think it really brings out the flavours) one capful of white vinegar
