If it feels, thinks, and reacts negatively to pain, then I don't eat it or its products. The basis for ethical consumption is suffering. That's really it.
People like to go "muh plants bro", they don't have a CNS or consciousness. They aren't sentient. They respond to their environment mechanically. They don't suffer. A machine tearing ass through a field of soy and corn and wheat takes a lot less manpower and pain than raising livestock and butchering them, or harvesting their various discharges. That's really it, though. I just don't like the suffering in the industry. I made the decision to stop buying those things.
