Go to your local grocery, or small "organic" store like New Seasons Whole Foods etc and buy a coffee that's like 12 bucks a bag. Try a south American single origin like Columbia etc and while you're there, buy a pour over cone they're like 10 bucks. Get some filters too. I bet your parents have a cheap grinder at home ask them.

Grind your shit medium coarse and boil some water. let the water sit for a minute and then pour some over the coffee. Don't add milk. If you don't like it without milk buy another blend. If you must add milk don't add much.

There, you're practically an expert.

They made their coffee weak. Buy the beans and make it stronger yourself
This isn't rocket appliances

Because there is an optimal coffee extraction point and that is considered proper.

>Can I just put instant coffee grounds in it
That would kind of negate the purpose of the press. You can use pre-ground coffee from the store and as most of it is ground for drip machines here in 'murica, you'll be looking at a 2-3 minute total brew time

>still tastes like bitter shit
Your grind is too fine and/or you're brewing too long. If you're using preground (which is ground for drip, not full immersion) drop your brew time to 2-3 minutes

If it tastes good, then that's all that really matters. If it's a little sour, you need to brew longer, if it's bitter, you need to shorten the brew time. Pic related

Possibly. Adjust your brew time either way and fuckin figure it out. Are you using preground?

16:1 water:coffee. The only way to do it correctly is weight. Brew time is completely dependent on grind. If you're using coffee preground for drip or similar, you'd probably want around 3 minutes.

If you don't have a scale yet, you're just going to have to experiment to find what you like

1. Get freshly roasted single origin beans
2. Get a good burr grinder
3. Get a bunch of different brew methods/devices and perfect them
4. Laugh at the plebs drinking swill

A lot of people tend to over extract their coffee. Things like cold brew are only exasperating this.
