it's kind of a curse. if alcohol was fucking up my life and not just my liver and arteries it would be easier to kick. instead i've been a good husband, pretty decent dad, and completed multiple graduate degrees while being some degree of inebriated most nights. i'm always impressed with the number of alcoholics hanging around /ck/. maybe we ought to get our own board.

you're worried that if you bring booze to a party people will complain that you didn't do it right? most shaken cocktails don't do well if they're made in big batches--this is mostly stuff with fruit juices and other things that are more difficult to get into solution together. that's why they're shaken. anything that is pretty much all booze is great for batching. these are cocktails that are usually stirred rather than shaken. a negroni is classic. i've made big batches of my house boulevardier for parties before. it's best for cocktails that you can drink down, either neat or on the rocks. if you really have your heart set on something shaken, like a margarita or daiquiri or whatever, you can premix everything but the juice and shake individual drinks to order. i don't think i've ever made/drunk an espresso martini. if you want it to get that foam like in the picture it probably needs to be shaken. depends on the recipe whether or not it will work well, i guess.
