This. Leaving the country to travel is sort of a hard thing to do seeing as it's both expensive and requires time off that many jobs don't even offer. Somewhere else on this thread someone mentioned that only the rich and students get to travel. To an extent, this is true. I have a shitty job, so I really don't have the time or income to travel to the countries that I've always wanted to. Saving money obviously would be the key, but again, time off is the biggest hold back. I was lucky enough to go to several different countries when I was younger and money/time wasn't an issue.

Even people with decent jobs seldom have the time; my friend works for a good corporation, is on salary and is well-off - not super rich, but certainly has enough money to go somewhere every now and then. But his work doesn't allow him any more than a week to a week and a half for vacation per year.

Yes, traveling outside of the country is an amazing experience that everyone should do at least once their lives. But sadly, not many people are granted that opportunity. Still, America has a lot of places you could go where you can experience something entirely new and somewhat foreign since the geography and regional cultures vary so much.

tl;dr: work sucks
