I did a six month sentence for assaulting a police officer. He tried to handcuff me at a traffic stop. My car tax was out of date. He was just doing his job, and I apologized to him. But trying to cuff me for a minor traffic violation was way over the top as I was compliant.
Prison food is really nice as it's made by fellow inmates and thery don't wish to piss anyone off. I don't know about American prisons, though.
Here's my advice: be a 'grey man' - don't stand out. Get some work as it will make your time pass faster (I worked in the laundry). Don't borrow anything from anyone. Be cordial and polite to the prison officers, but NEVER grass. The last one is the most important.
