that's a cabbage soup usually cooked around christmas and winter time
there are of course many variations, everybody will like the one their babushka made it and will shit on all the other ones but anyway here's how I usually prepare it:

>boil a pork knee until super soft and falling apart creating a strong pork stock
>pick all the meat from the knee
>grab a bunch of dried wild mushrooms (they are pretty expensive to buy so make sure to forage them in a forest in autumn and dry them yourself) put them in a bowl and pour hot water over them so they soften
>in pork lard brown some cubed pork shoulder seasoned with salt and pepper, then set aside
>in the same pot cook a large onion until softened
>add minced garlic and tomato paste and stir to combine
>add the pork shoulder and meat from pork knee to the pot
>season with a teaspoon of ground cumin and eyeball a lot of sweet hungarian paprika, cook for a while but be careful to not let the paprika burn or it will get bitter
>add sauerkraut (store bought is perfectly fine)
>add mushrooms along with the mushroom water
>add some bay leafs
>mix all that stuff together and pour in the pork stock you made using the knee
>bring the whole affair to boil and cook for 45-60 minutes on low heat
>some 15 minutes before finishing add the sausages
>serve with heavy cream
>enjoy

The dish might not look particularly appetising but it's really delicious.

Many people add potatoes and/or dried plums to the soup but I never cared for either of those in my kapustnica.

Enjoy.
