>apple cake
Pieces of apple were mixed with batter and were nicely browned. Awesome dessert.
>pies
All the fillings. Some are big, cake-sized (pirog), some are smaller, around the size of the palm (pirozhok).
My favorite were ground meat pies and mashed potato pies
>shanga
Mashed potatoes on top of a flatbread
>soups
I don't like soups in general, but if you're into it, borsch, solyanka and schi are worth looking into. Okroshka is a good summer soup - basically salad with sour cream and unsweetened kvass.
>pan-fried potatoes with forest shrooms
Using rendered pork fat in it makes it even more delicious.
>pelmeni
Easy to cook, delicious.
>kotlet
Similar to hamburger patties with milk-soaked bread and onion mixed in. Very tender.
>buckwheat
Probably most popular slav grain, more popular than rice. Mix in fried onion and carrots for best taste
>bliny
Do i need to say more? Fucking delicious.
>olady
Slighly sour micro-pancakes.
>golubzy
I don't like cooked cabbage, but it's basically slav dolma.
>sauerkraut
Now that's my jam. Best eaten as slighly sweetened cold snack.
>jams
Perfect for eating with bliny, also for diluting in water for sweet drink.
>kompot
Another great summer drink.

And that's from the top of my head.

Kot is in expert in delicious russian food, trust him.

I personally love sweet blini with condensed milk or strawberry jam or sour ones with, say, chicken in cream sauce.

Pelmeni - they look like vareniki here, but with raw meat filling.

Various pies. Sour pies with meat or fish is traditional way.

Salted herring. Salted herring with onions and boiled potatoes is traditional alcoholic food.

Also, sauerkraut. I don`t know how russian pickled cabbage differs with kraut one, but it`s a popular winter salad.
