Americans are similar, but because each region tends to have fare they are proud of, you'll get a lot of them who only cook one particular subset of food (often relying on sugar and fat to carry the flavor in lieu of actual planning or technique) and are ignorant of everything else. True of all areas, but the South can be especially bad with this. Low effort, clinging to tradition. Nowadays it has shifted more towards the scenario you described where the majority doesn't cook at all. I remember a few friends being awestruck when I made chicken soup not from a can. "Wow dude... how did you DO that??"

Ah, so my choice of aussie dude was weirdly accurate - I see what you mean. They vary by state for sure, but moreso it's regional. Lot of IPA's on the west coast, more lagers towards the middle, then darker heavier stuff on the east side. Kinda maps to the early settlers, the middle and east anyway. Germans brought the lager, Irish/Scots go for the darker. But I guess like you said, Australia kinda doesnt give a shit in regards to variety as far as I'm aware. HOWEVER, you guys do have one of the greatest drink along movies of all time: Wake in Fright.
