Why would this upset you? I miss working as a waiter or cashier specifically because of the regulars (most of them, at least).

Sometimes the only good part of the day was when a regular stopped by. You'd get to know them a little better each time and would work hard to provide the absolute best service you could so they left in a better mood than they came in. It was very gratifying -- made you feel like you were still somehow doing the world some real good despite being relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Every day the urge to chuck my smart phone into the ocean and trade it in for a land line grows stronger. The only thing holding me back now is my job that pretends it's a necessary tool. I'm almost at the point I'd leave my job just for the satisfaction of finally ending this tethered life nightmare.
