The left picture is a really bad example of a pizza margherita. It's American housewife food blogger tier. Pic related is a better one.

But at the end of the day, both pizzas are just tomato, cheese, and bread. But the Italian one is superior because of the quality of the ingredients and the way it's cooked.

All the ingredients for a dish don't have to come from a single region in order for the dish to come from that region. By that logic Americans also have no claim to pizza, or pretty much any food for that matter, while places like China, India, the Middle East and Mexico are fucking stacked (which they admittedly are but still, not to that extent).

While the American grease disc could be considered a different dish I guess, it was clearly inspired by Italian pizza. American media spread their own version worldwide sure but that wouldn't have happened if not for Italian influence in the US, modifying their superior dish to fit American tastes
